Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose Limitless Pilates?

The movement philosophy at Limitless Pilates is to be as efficient as possible whether you are doing Pilates, sitting in your car, playing sports or walking your dog. When you move efficiently, your body will experience fewer limitations (less pain, fatigue, tension, tightness) and open up opportunities to move in ways that you haven’t moved before.

You only have access to one body and you want it to last. In order to be efficient, the appropriate muscles have to activate to move your joints. AND, more importantly, your brain needs to inhibit or turn off the other muscles that aren’t necessary for that particular movement. Does clenching your jaw actually help when you walk up the stairs? No, but it does unnecessarily increase the tension in head, neck and shoulders, possibly cause headaches, and lead to faulty shoulder mechanics.

Your sessions at Limitless Pilates will address your individual movement patterns to increase efficiency by improving strength/flexibility, decreasing tension, providing nourishment to the joints, preventing injury and pain, improving athletic performance and so much more.

As much as necessary, as little as possible.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a system of exercise based on specific movement principles. These exercises are performed on the floor/mat or on Pilates equipment.

Most of the exercises are designed to mimic real life movements. Whether the movement is performed by a high level athlete or dancer to enhance performance, or someone recovering from injury whose goals are to walk without a limp or sit at a desk without tension, almost anyone can benefit from learning more about how their body works.

Pilates is the perfect platform. The equipment is so versatile, you can simulate a golf swing, jump in a gravity-eliminated environment and work in several different orientations to gravity. As an added bonus, you can build long, supple muscles without bulk and create a sleek, toned body.

Do I need any previous Pilates experience?

No Pilates experience necessary for private sessions or mat class. In fact, no previous exercise experience is needed either. Pilates is a non-competitive sport, and everyone moves at his or her own pace.

Pilates sessions are tailored to each individual. The instructors have experience teaching those with little to no exercise experience as well as higher level athletes. The staff has taught Pilates to clients in wheelchairs, NFL players, endurance athletes, yoga instructors, and other health care providers (massage therapists, chiropractors, orthopedic surgeons, etc).

All ages are welcome. We have worked with children as young as five and clients who are into their late 80s.

Prior Pilates experience is needed for group reformer classes. Limitless Pilates offers an intro package to gain Pilates experience necessary for a group setting, not only for your bod, but to maintain proper functioning of the equipment. See pricing/services for more details.

Already have Pilates experience, but new to Limitless Pilates? Contact Jamie or Shelley to discuss experience before booking a group class.

What does National Certified Pilates Teacher (NCPT) mean? And why should I care?

The Pilates Method Alliance is the professional association and certifying agency for Pilates

teachers. The PMA Pilates Certification Program is the only accredited certification program

for Pilates teachers that administers an exam leading to a professional credential. PMA

certification demonstrates to the public, as well as to others in the profession, that a teacher

meets an established standard of competence and safety for comprehensive Pilates

instruction, independent of a particular school.

Jamie is the only physical therapist who is also a PMA®-CPT in mid-Missouri, according to

the PMA and Missouri Division of Professional Registration websites (as of January 2015). She completed the comprehensive training through Polestar Pilates, as well as Balanced Body Education. Shelley is also national certified pilates teacher, as of May 2019. Shelley and Deb have over 10 years of experience teaching movement, exercise, and tailoring individual exercise programs.
